Coronavirus

From what we know about other coronaviruses, the spread of COVID-19 is most likely to happen when there is close contact (within 2 metres or less) with an infected person. It is likely that the risk increases the longer someone has close contact with an infected person. Respiratory secretions produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes containing the virus are most likely to be the main means of transmission.

 There are 2 main routes by which people can spread COVID-19:

  1. The infection can be spread to people who are nearby (within 2 metres) or possibly could be inhaled into the lungs.
  2. It is also possible that someone may become infected by touching a surface, object or the hand of an infected person that has been contaminated with respiratory secretions and then touching their own mouth, nose, or eyes (such as touching door knob or shaking hands then touching own face)

Whilst we are unable to prevent the spread of Covid-19 through contact with people we can help prevent the spread by decontaminating potentially affected surfaces.

If the virus is present this discinfectant will kill it within a 5 minute contact time. The area can then be reoccupied 2 hours later. 

Coronaviruses are enveloped viruses with a positive-sense single-stranded RNA genome. The PX-formulations have been tested against Adenovirus and Murine norovirus in accordance with EN14476, the European standard for demonstrating virucidal activity of a disinfectant, against the enveloped Vaccinia virus.

According to EN14476:2013 + A2:2019, testing the efficacy of a disinfectant against Adenovirus and Murine norovirus [1] allows the product to claim efficacy against enveloped viruses  including Coronavirus, Influenza virus, Hepatitis B and C and Human Immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

The service is carried out using an Ultra-low volume machine which produces tiny droplets. These droplets will penetrate cracks and crevices and cover all areas. The area can be entered once the disinfectant treatment has dried after 2 hours.

Because the ULV uses micro droplets we should also be able to use in areas where there are computers or electrical equipment (switched off). One thing to note is that we do have to cover or switch off the fire alarms while this work is going on.
