This New Year, keep a close eye out for pest infestations. Rodents have had a good Christmas because they have had lots of empty workplaces and excess food to enjoy!
Unfortunately this means that many people will be returning to rodent infested workplaces.
Having an infestation can cause a multitude of issues from destruction of property to loss of staff from sickness which is bad for business. Therefore it is important that pest infestations are identified and treated sooner rather than later.
What should I watch out for?
- Chewed materials and structures. In order to find food and a place to nest, rodents will chew through wiring, timber, pipes and even brickwork. Keep a close eye out for chew marks and not just holes.
- Rodent droppings will vary in size depending on whether it is rats or mice, but look out for shiny black droppings that are smooth with pointy ends.
- Tracks and Trails. Keep an eye out for tiny footprints or lines from tails dragging on the floor.
- If employees are getting sick often, this may be due to rodent infestation rather than the back to work blues.
What should I do if I discover a rodent infestation?
This is probably the easiest part for you, as the best thing to do is get an expert in. If you are already in a contract with a pest control provider, give them a call and let them know your findings. They will send out trained technicians to identify where the rodents are nested if still on site and move them along. If you don’t already have a pest control provider – you should look into getting one!
