On Sunday 29th January, on a wet and dreary day at Gander Green Lane, Beaver Pest Control proudly sponsored the FA Cup tie between Sutton United and Leeds United. Two of our partners Graham and David Lodge are long standing supporters of Leeds United, so this gave us a great opportunity to get behind the team and also to support our local team Sutton United at the same time as showcasing our company.
It was a pleasure to meet some long standing supporters along with a number of football legends, even our club mascot Beaver was getting in the spirit and joining in!
The Game
At the start of the game it was no surprise that Sutton had a difficult job on their hands, as no non-league has reached the fifth round of the FA Cup since 1988. Sutton dominated throughout the first half and looked the more comfortable of the teams going into the break. The second half then got underway, with Leeds coming out a lot stronger as opposed to the first, dominating the majority of possession.
The game was turned on its head in the 56th minute when Sutton United were awarded a penalty which was confidently converted by part-time builder James Collins. The fans erupted as Sutton finally received a well-deserved reward for how well they had been playing. The final half-hour became tense but Sutton never really looked in any danger of conceding. They held on until the final whistle to write their name in the history books.
“Although my team didn’t go through, it was a pleasure to see Sutton United soak up the atmosphere of the occasion and deliver a result like this! The squad showed great character and we wish them the best of luck in the competition!” David Lodge (Partner at BPC)
It was our pleasure to be a sponsor on this historical day and we wish Sutton United the best of luck moving forward onto the fifth round!
